Annual Reports
- ULMS provides services to constituents in the
areas of employment, housing counseling, education and general
resources.
- During the school year the Department serves K-8th
grade school age youth in the Children's University after-school
program. Our emphasis is on Individual Tutor Plans and the "1000 Hours
of Reading" Program for K thru 3rd grade. The communications
that is established between us and the schools with families and their
children keeps our curriculum concentrated on individual academic needs,
directions and goals in a very specific and timely approach. The weekly
schedule is from 2:30pm to 5:30pm with children arriving from several
participating schools. In some cases pick-up transportation is
available. Snacks are served, homework coordinated, daily reading
required and lessons plans assigned that aim to challenge collective
skill building and individual thinking. Our three key focuses are
exposure to ideas, motivating individual thinking and positive stirring
of the imagination. To feed the intellectual capacity of each child. To
provide a safe and a nurturing environment to bond in trusting
relationships.
- Our Employment & Training Department serves
unemployed, low-income, and disadvantaged people by helping them find
paid employment. Our offerings include workshops, classes, and
counseling all designed to build new job-related skills, assist in
crafting resumes and cover letters, mastering the interview process, and
efficiently conducting job searches.
- Our Housing Department helps clients purchase
homes, find affordable rentals, and keep their homes when financial
hardship strikes. We also offer seminars in the areas of wealth
building, home buying, small business development, and avoiding
"predatory" lending practices.
- ULMS is deeply committed to public advocacy and
community organization and development. We are proud to be a member of
a number of coalitions that are structured to serve and enhance the
economic development and self-sufficiency of the community.
