Transitional Youth Housing

The Urban League owns a transitional house that is operated by “Central House”.  The house serves seven young adults (18-24) who have been homeless and are capable of living independently in a community setting.  The house has seven bedrooms,  four shared bathrooms, two large kitchens, two large living rooms, and offices for the staff.

Located in a residential neighborhood the house is a short bus ride away from a number of commercial centers with supermarkets, shopping, employment opportunities, health care centers and supportive services.

ULMS believes that housing homeless young adults in low density residential neighborhoods is an important component of the array of housing needed to address homelessness.  This is a residential neighborhood in an ideal setting for participants who are trying to gain stability, and the necessary skills to lead successful self sufficient lives in permanent housing.  The residents hold regular home meetings, serve meals, study, and socialize in the common areas.
