Northwest African American Museum at the Urban League Village
Naming Opportunity Descriptions
The following paragraphs describe each naming opportunity, donation amount, its location within the project and its use in the new Urban League Village at Colman School.
Museum Name - $7 Million
Naming of the Northwest African American Museum component of the building. The Museum will occupy approximately 17,000 sf of the building’s main level. It will provide gallery and exhibit space, a range of work spaces, classrooms, community gathering and support facilities. With 12 ft ceilings and accurate historic renovation of significant architectural features, the Museum will recapture the beauty of the historic building and provide a state-of-the-art facility to house its programs.
Building Name - $6.5 Million
Naming of the building that will house the Museum and Housing components of the Urban League Village. The Museum will occupy the building’s main level. There will be thirty-six apartment units (ranging in size from 400 - 1000 sf) located on the second and third floors. The historic school building was completed in 1909 and has been designated a Seattle Landmark by the City of Seattle Landmarks Preservation Board, and it is listed in the Washington State Heritage Register.
Endowed Staff Positions
Naming of individual principal staff positions. The Museum Director, a highly visible position, will have primary responsibility for the Museum’s budget and the day-to-day operations of the facility. The Museum Curator of Programs will work directly with community members and other cultural institutions to mount and maintain the exhibitions. The Museum Educator will create ongoing programming that enhances and coordinates with the Museum exhibitions.

Museum Galleries
Naming of individual gallery workspaces within the Museum facility is available for donor recognition. Several galleries are envisioned for the Museum and all will be located on the building’s main level. They will range in size from over 1,700 sf up to 2,400 sf. It is anticipated there will be a section devoted to a permanent installation with the others being a combination of rotating regional & national exhibits, local artists’ works, historic & cultural exhibits as well as short-term exhibits in the surrounding galleries. The gallery names are working titles for this document:

[4] Museum Administrative Offices - $1 Million
Naming of the Museum Administrative Offices located in the northwest corner of the building. At 1,316 sf, this space will house administrative staff who will manage the daily operations and functions of the Museum.
[5] Museum Foyer Entry - $750,000 *
Naming of the Museum Foyer, the grand entry space. At 293 sf, this high visibility space, with its high ceilings, will be a primary greeting space for Museum patrons. It will be the Museum’s designated site for patrons to receive information on the current exhibit and the entry for those visiting the Café or Bookstore. It will also be one of the first points of festivity on opening nights.
[6] Sculpture Garden Name - $500,000*
Naming of the Sculpture Garden. Between the two wings of the building on the southeast side, a courtyard will enclose a formal Sculpture Garden. The Garden will offer panoramic views of the Seattle Public Park and Mount Rainier.
[7] Outdoor Artists Studio Name - $500,000
Naming of the Outdoor Artists Studio. Between the two wings of the building on the northeast side, a courtyard will enclose an Outdoor Artists Studio. This space will serve as an extension to the Artists Studios and, like the Sculpture Garden, it will offer panoramic views of the Seattle Public Park and Mount Rainier.
[8] Multimedia Learning Center - $250,000 *
Naming of the Multimedia Learning Center at the northern part of the building. At 901 sf, this space will house the Museum’s research and computerized archives. It will serve as the Museum’s research and study center for students, visiting artists and educators.
[9] Sculpture Garden Cafe Name - $250,000
Naming of the Café located on the southeast side of the foyer. At 747 sf, the Café will have views that look out toward the Sculpture Garden. It will be accessible to patrons prior to formal entry into the Museum and will serve as a meeting point for Museum patrons and class participants.
[10] Museum Bookstore Name - $250,000
Naming of the Museum Bookstore, the designated point of business, located on the northeast side of the foyer. At 987 sf, the Bookstore will feature books, cards and objects that relate to the Museum’s exhibitions and classroom activities. Like the Café it will be accessible to patrons prior to formal entry into the Museum.
[11] Museum Artists Studio 1 - $200,000 *
Naming of the Artists Studio 1 located in the northeast corner of the building. At 993 sf, it will be a working classroom where hands-on art classes are taught. Students will have access to visiting artists and their studios that are in the same configuration. The classroom is a key space for the Museum’s education programs with its access to the Artists Studios and the extended Outdoor Artists Studio.
[12] Museum Artists Studio 2 & alternate meeting space - $200,000
Naming of the space adjacent to the main Artists Studio teaching space. At 964 sf, this space can be completely cordoned off and serve as extended studio space for the education program, visiting artists and as an alternate meeting space as needed.
[13] AV Room - $100,000 *
Naming of the Audio Visual Room located adjacent to the Multi-Purpose Gallery. At 116 sf, this will be the primary service space for the Multi-Purpose Gallery.
[14] Receiving - $100,000
Naming of the Receiving space located at the west side of the building. At 520 sf, this will be a multi-functional zone for crate loading/unloading, shipment inventory and temporary holding space.
[15] Workroom - $100,000
Naming of the Workroom located at the west side of the building between Receiving and Storage. At 641 sf, this will be a multi-functional zone for exhibition intake and piece preparation, inventory artwork and temporary holding space.
[16] Storage - $100,000
Naming of the Storage area located at the west side of the building adjacent to the Workroom. At 544 sf, this area will primarily store short term exhibition pieces, inventory artwork and function as a temporary holding space.
[17] New Parking Area - $100,000
Naming of the New Parking Area located to the south of the existing building. A total of 82 parking spaces will be dedicated to Museum visitors and housing residents.
