I thought that I would share with you the ideas I presented to PRESIDENT BUSH as a part of a Recent WHITE HOUSE meeting to discuss the reauthorization of the NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND LAW.

The meeting included leaders of several of the nation's top CIVIL RIGHTS ORGANIZATIONS who strongly believe that the EDUCATION of all of our CHILDREN is a very high national priority, and central to the nation's economic advancement in the 21st century.....

I strongly urged that the law be fully funded to give all children the best chance to learn to READ at grade level.

I further urged that AFTER SCHOOL tutorial opportunities be expanded and made more available to students who need additional help without the delays that are allowed in the current law.

We support reauthorization with changes that are outlined in our position paper and are prepared to work with the PRESIDENT and both sides of the aisle to achieve this....

We have joined with a broad bipartisan coalition to urge an OVERRIDE of the PRESIDENT's veto of the CHILDRENs HEALTH INSURANCE bill which will provide health coverage to many uninsured children.
